The Loy Krathong Festival is an ancient and important festival of Thailand. It is practiced differently in each region due to each region's specific belief.

Generally however it is seen as a gesture of respect to the river goddess for her bounty in providing water for the livelihood and agriculture, another belief is a plea for forgiveness for having polluted her waters.
