Operations can be traumatic. I watched this one being done on my side. The 'thing' being brought out looked like orange bubble wrap. The operation lasted for about 1 hour 30 minutes, about 45 minutes longer than was expected. The Dr. kept saying "...well it certainly is a big one...".

Unfortunately he would not let me photograph during the operation. I did ask!

Bee and Flower

A tough shot one might say, but in reality it's quite simple; but you do need patience...and a nice plant to attract bees. I set up the shot and used two large golfing umbrellas to cut the wind down; one unbrella has a silver back and so I used this to bounce the flash. The depth of field is tiny and so focussing is difficult as the extension tubes render the autofocus useless; and also as the flower drops and alters its position once the bee lands. So you have to focus once the bee arrives.

I love classic cars so when, on a recent trip to San Francisco, the California Mille was being held outside my hotel, I felt like I was in heaven. Normally I'm a Porsche person (and there were some magnificent classic Speedsters on display) but one can't help being drawn to the sexyness and sheer muscle of the Ferrari.

As I drove round a bend on Route 1, just outside of Big Sur, California, this chap floated over the cliff face and tried to get into the car. With a wing span of over six feet, I think he would have found it a little cramped.

I stopped the car and the condors turned and completed three more circuits before drifting off to some other place, gliding on the thermals created by the beautiful pacific ocean.

Fortunately or unfortunately I was not swimming with my camera while this glided past. It was a specimen in the Monterey Bay Aquarium next to Cannery Row, USA. The aquarium is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon; however for photography the possibilities for good shots are a little limited, mostly it's too dark and signs discourage the use of flash, therefore sharks that glide quickly by are often blurred. Here I used the F1.4 sigma 30mm and as it lets so much light onto the sensor, this is not a big problem.

Wat Po is a magical temple and is at the very heart of Bangkok for many reasons: it's the home of tradition Thai massage and holds the number one massage training facility in Thailand. Wat Po is also home to a very large golden reclining Buddha. Here, the light that shines through the windows reflect a golden light onto offering bowls that run alongside the giant statue.

The Ploen Chit Fair is an annual charity event in Bangkok; essentially it is celebrating the Englishness of the English village fete, while raising lots of money for charity. The Loy Krathong Festival is an ancient and important festival of Thailand. It is practiced differently in each region due to each region's specific belief.

Generally however it is seen as a gesture of respect to the river goddess for her bounty in providing water for the livelihood and agriculture, another belief is a plea for forgiveness for having polluted her waters.

Just off the Khlong San Seeb, in Pratu Nam, Bangkok, people start early to prepare food. This sort of a food stall attracts local works from both the nearby offices and the river workers. I don't think they have a hygeine certificate, I could be wrong.

The Location is the San Seeb Khlong (Canal) that runs through the heart of Bangkok. The Canal Carries over 15,000 people per day and charges an average of 16 baht (about 23 pence) per ticket. As you can see, it's a harzdous occupation working here; equally hazardous for passengers getting on and off. I've seen people go in the water.
